
Once you have created your search profile, you may find you want to refine or modify the search. You can add and remove search criteria as well as modify existing criteria.
To Modify an Existing Search Profile:
1. Click on the tab for the search profile you wish to modify.
2. Click on the Edit [Search Profile Name] button for the search profile.
3. Make your changes on the Modifying [Search Profile Name] page. You can expand each section of the search profile by clicking on the "+" icon for that specific selection. You can modify:
profile information (name, default status and discipline(s) your search profile searches. Adding or removing disciplines determine which journals are searched by your search profile. Any changes you make apply only to the search profile you are editing and have no impact on other strategies.)
disciplines and custom source sets (inclusion and exclusion of disciplines and any custom source sets you create)
search criteria (terms, authors, sources). You can modify, add or delete specific criteria.

4. When finished, click the Save or Save & View Results button.
Modifying Existing Search Criteria
You can modify existing search criteria or add new search criteria to an existing search. Here's how:
1. Click on the tab for the search strategy you wish to modify.
2. Click on the Edit [Search Profile Name] button for the search profile.
3. Select the existing criterion from the Criteria List by clicking on it. This will move the specific criterion to the text box for editing.
4. Make your changes to the criterion.
5. Click the Update Selected Criteria button.
6. When finished, click the Save or Save & View Results button.
Adding New Criteria to an Existing Search Profile:
You can add new search terms, authors or sources to an existing search profile. To do this:
1. Click on the tab for the search profile you wish to modify.
2. Click on the Edit [Search Profile Name] button for the search profile.
3. Select the criterion you wish to add from the drop-down (term, author or journal).
4. Type the information for your criterion in the text box. For guidelines on creating search profile criteria, click here.
5. Click the Add Search Criterion button.
6. To add additional criterion, start at #3 above and repeat the process for each term, author or source you wish to add.
7. When finished, click the Save or Save & View Results button.
Deleting Criteria from a Search Profile:
You can also delete criteria from a search profile. To do so:
1. Click on the tab for the search profile you wish to modify.
2. Click on the Edit [Search Profile Name] button for the search profile.
3. Select the existing criterion from the Criteria List by clicking on it. This will move your criteria to the text box for editing.
4 Click the Remove Selected Criteria button.
5. When finished, click the Save or Save & View Results button.
Excluding Specific Sources from a Search Profile
To exclude Sources from your search profile:
Click on the tab for the search profile you wish to modify.
Click on the Edit [Search Profile Name] button for the search profile.
3. In the Exclude Sources section, begin typing the name of the source you wish to exclude. The Source Assistant will display options for you to select. Locate the name of the source you wish to exclude and click on it.
4. Click on the Add Source button to add the source to the exclusion list.
5. Repeat Steps 1-3 until your exclusion list is complete.
6. Click Save or Save & View Results to save the exclusions.
You can also exclude a source while viewing the search profile results. When a record is displayed in the main viewing pane, you will see an Exclude Results From [Source name] button which is automatically populated with the name of the source for the record currently displayed. Click on the Exclude Results From [Source name] button to add that source to your exceptions list.
To remove a Source from the Exclusion List:
1. Click on the tab for the search profile you wish to modify.
2. Click on the Edit [Search Profile Name] button for the search profile.
3. In the Exclude Sources section, select the source name to remove from the Exclusion List by clicking on it.
4 Click the Remove Source button.
5. Click the Save or Save & View Results button.
